Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably noticed the growing trend for natural products, but why?
Take a moment to think about how many products you have used on your body before you even walked out the door?
Soap/wash? Facial/skincare products? Deodorant? Toothpaste? Feminine hygiene products? Make-up? Perfume? Adds up quickly hey? 😯
As women we apply twice as much to our skin in comparison to men, and this daily exposure really adds up over our lifetime.
Our skin is the largest (and thinnest) organ in our body, and 60-100% of the ingredients we apply to our skin, we absorb. (Just think about nicotine or pain patches if you’re having trouble comprehending how this happens).
Unfortunately our skin cannot protect us from this happening like it can when we consume food and this is because we do not have digestive enzymes breaking the ingredients down or a liver to extract the nutrients and then purify + remove what our body doesn’t need.
According to Bill Statham (author of Chemical Maze), if you use perfume or a product that contains the word fragrance (and almost all conventional products do) or apply a product to your underarms, mouth or intimate area, you will 100% absorb those ingredients directly into the bloodstream.
We don’t quite yet know the long-term effects of using synthetic, man-made ingredients on our bodies, but there are studies being conducted which are showing hormonal disruption, mood imbalances, gut & immune system compromise, and even cancer risk.
So rather than feeling overwhelmed or worried, we have complete control over what we choose to put in and on our bodies and you can simply choose to switch to using products that contain only natural ingredients that your body recognises and knows how to process. 🙌🌿🌸
For help on how and where to start when making the switch, stay tuned, it’ll be the next post! 😍
